Overview

During the past nine months, Hong Kong investors’ sentiment and appetite have been affected by political uncertainty and global pandemic. Japan real estate presents a diversification to investors’ portfolio. With a robust track record of Japan real estate investment for more than 20 years, the speaker will provide his insights on the attractiveness and trends of Japan real estate, in particular residential property, as a relatively stable asset class.

The speaker will also highlight some of the key differences between investing in Japan as compared to Hong Kong, including the potential legal, taxation and cultural issues.

Instructor / Speaker

Arnold is founder of Altus Holdings Limited. He has around 30 years of experience in corporate finance advisory work and Japan real estate investment and management. In 1988, he returned to Hong Kong after 4 years at Arthur Andersen in London, United Kingdom. He then spent 8 years with Standard Chartered Asia Limited and 4 years with Yuanta Securities (Hong Kong) Company Limited before establishing the Altus group (Altus Holdings Limited in 2000. He is a director of Altus Japan Property Fund Limited SPC, which was recently set up in February 2020.
Sean has more than 20 years of experience in banking, corporate finance advisory and investment management, including in Japanese real estate. After graduating from the National University of Singapore in Singapore with a Degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical)in 1996, he began his corporate finance career at DBS Bank (Investment Banking) Singapore. After 4 years, Sean moved to Hong Kong to join Altus in 2001. Throughout the 2000s, Sean was involved in overseeing the management teams of several Altus investment funds as well as Saizen REIT, a real estate investment trust previously listed in Singapore, which focused on Japanese real estate investment property. Sean is currently an executive director of Altus and director of Altus Japan Property Fund Limited SPC, which was recently set up in February 2020.
