[Webinar] The SFC’s Regulatory Approach to Virtual Assets

Overview

Over the past few years, the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has introduced a new regulatory framework for virtual asset (VA) funds and exchanges, and clarified its regulatory requirements through the issuance of circulars and statements.

In this webinar, Ms Clara KL Chiu will provide details about the SFC’s regulatory framework and the relevant regulatory requirements in relation to VA trading platforms, VA funds and other VA activities. She will also share her observations on VA landscape as well as the latest regulatory developments in overseas jurisdictions.

Clara CHIU

Clara KL Chiu is the Director of Licensing and the Head of Fintech unit of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC). She oversees the SFC Fintech Contact Point, formulates Fintech policies and drives regulatory reforms. She also supervises licensing process including applications of Fintech companies and traditional financial institutions.

Clara is a qualified solicitor in Hong Kong, and England and Wales. Prior to joining the SFC, Clara worked in international law firms practising commercial litigation and regulatory advisory work. Previously, Clara also worked in the Intermediaries Supervision Department of the SFC.

Clara is an ex officio member of the SFC Fintech Advisory Group. She is also a Board member of the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute.
