Fundamentals of Investment Funds

Overview

This course is designed to cover different types of investment funds offered to investors, for example unit trusts, mutual funds, pension funds, institutional funds, etc.

Objective

On completing this course, you should be able to:
a. Understand essential features, risks, costs, benefits and fee structures of investment funds and unit trusts;
b. Understand different types of investment funds in terms of asset class, market, asset allocation (active vs passive), and other considerations (open-end vs closed-end);
c. Understand the contents of a fund factsheet and an audited annual report of an investment fund;
d. Evaluate fund performance through the use of benchmarks and risk-adjusted measures; and
e. Identify potential red flags for an investment fund
