Overview

This eCourse consists of two modules on securities lending. Module 1 looks at the principles, the common components, the market participants, and the procedures required of a typical securities lending transaction. Securities lending is a collateralized lending activity that involves the temporary transfer of securities from a lender to a borrower, assisted by various intermediaries. A sizeable global business within broader financial services, securities lending brings benefits such as enhanced liquidity and improved functioning of securities markets as a whole, as well as risks such as counterparty credit risk and operational risk.

Module 2 looks at collateralization practices in the securities lending market. It also describes the main risks associated with securities lending and some of the tools and techniques used to mitigate or manage these risks.

Objective

On completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Recognize the basics of securities lending and its role in modern markets
- Identify concepts common to most securities lending transactions
- Identify different participants in the securities lending market and their roles
- Recognize the essential processes in a typical securities lending transaction's lifecycle
- Recognize the role of collateral in securities lending

- Identify standard required documentation in securities lending
